Brand Obama?

OK, what would Obama’s brand essence be? I was facilitating a brand workshop today and while everyone agreed that CHANGE and HOPE would be somewhere there, there was this feeling that now he’s in the hotseat, CHANGE might not be the smartest of essences to aim for.  Someone came up with RESTLESS.  I like it.  That might be more defensible after 4 years and a depression recession bagel. Where does it come from?

A few days ago we were invited to a farm near Camden on the outskirts of Sydney, where we met with the lovely Grech family – they run Grech Farms.  Grech Farms has been going for many many years now, and this farm grows a lot of potatoes. I am ashamed to say that as I watched my kids learn where potatoes come from, I too was learning!  Later that evening we had the best potato salad I have ever had, along with fresh corn from the neighbour’s farm.  The potatoes from this farm go...

Brand Essence in Selling

I took the family car to the dealership today to be serviced.  While I was waiting for the dealer’s  man to get some paperwork filled out, his screensaver popped up.  I just happened to be leaning over the desk so I saw what it was.  I noticed in the distance that it was on ALL the computers in the dealership as a screensaver… It was a Brand Essence Wheel.  If you haven’t seen one of these before, a brand essence wheel is a simple diagram to capture the “essence”...

Coke using their delivery trucks to advertise RockSong and continue to link Coke to music, summer, etc. I presume it would be a reasonably simple exercise to target Sydney by only putting the banner on their Sydney delivery trucks.  I wonder if Linfox arranges it for them?

Alcopop tax a rort

So my first new entry is about the government’s sudden, populist “alcopop tax.”  To refresh the memory – this was a 70% increase in duty, announced without notice in April 2008.
